About Me

My goal is to help other parents figure out what is right for their families

Hi, I’m Sara! I am a mom to two, adamant about finding a better way of life. I’ve always been interested in health, food, and child development, leading me to study the composition of human milk and the microbiome of human milk and the infant gut as part of my PhD in Quantitative Biomedical Sciences at Dartmouth College. My studies focused on the effect of exposures including maternal diet, delivery mode, and the composition of human milk on the trajectory of the infant gut microbiome over the first year of life. I also have studied the effects of heavy metals on infant health, how the microbiome can influence health outcomes, and epigenetics in metabolic health and cancer.

Perhaps ironically (given my research background), in 2021 I became a parent to a child with numerous food allergies which forced me to become an expert in troubleshooting her dietary issues, mostly involving altering my own diet by restricting more and more foods over time. As her struggles continued, it left me feeling defeated as well as depleted. After an agonizing amount of research, trial, and error, and intentional dietary support, she is doing much better now.

When I was pregnant with my second child I decided to do almost everything differently in order to support my child’s early life microbiome and health. As a result, my son has had far fewer struggles than my daughter did. There have been a few hiccups, including a struggle with minor but persistent eczema, and more learning. But every day is progress and I am thankful for the opportunity to heal and support my family’s health.

My experiences highlight just how critical our behaviors are to our health, and my mission is to share my knowledge with others so they can skip to the healing part!
